Ballet & Pointework

Ballet is often considered to be the basic foundation for most other styles of dance. It teaches discipline, technique, and core strength. Our ballet dancers at Halesowen Dance Academy follow a specialised training programme grounded in the N.A.T.D syllabus and examinations.

Pupils that study ballet will have the opportunity to progress on to pointework. These classes cover beginners to advanced standard. Pupils and parents are given advice on where to go for pointe shoe fittings and how to prepare for their first classes. For our little dancers, many aspire to become a ballerina on pointes just like the older girls!

Tap Dancing

Tap dance is characterised by the sound of the tap shoes striking on the floor. Our little ones find this style exciting and noisy while older pupils are challenged to develop their skills and technique. Pupils also have the opportunity to take examinations accredited by the N.A.T.D.

We also run a very popular Adult Tap class where we cater for a variety of abilities.

Modern & Disco

Modern dance classes are a mixture of modern, disco, and musical theatre styles. Pupils learn technique alongside performance skills. These classes are lively and vibrant and are accompanied by popular and up beat music. Pupils are also given the opportunity to work towards N.A.T.D exams.

Contemporary

Pupils studying contemporary dance focus on technique, choreography, contact work, floor work and expression. They take part in regular performances as part of a company and build their confidence of working with others. Our contemporary syllabus provides excellent support for those working towards GCSE dance or looking to study dance in Further or Higher Education.

Street

Street dance lessons are available for pupils aged 5 plus. We have a Junior group and a Senior group available on a Tuesday evening. Pupils work towards performances and N.A.T.D awards. Street dance is a style of dance that originated from a variety of styles and these days is more often associated with a commercial style or the type of dancing seen in many popular music videos.

Gymnastic Dance

The Gymnastic Dance syllabus is designed to develop strength, flexibility, agility, co-ordination, and technique, by combining gymnastic tricks with dance.

Adult Classes

Our Adult Tap and Adult Ballet classes are extremely popular. Whether you are a beginner, improver or more advanced, we aim to offer something to challenge everyone. Come and learn a new skill in our relaxed and friendly classes.
