COVID Secure Business

Halesowen Dance Academy works very closely with our venues and with industry professionals Arts Safety Management to deliver our classes in line with our COVID 19 risk assessment.

17th April 2021 (reopening for face-to-face lessons for under 18s and students in years 12 and 13)

17th May 2021 (reopening for adult lessons subject to Government confirmation)

When restrictions mean that we are unable to provide face to face lessons we will offer online lessons via Zoom.  Many of our pupils have taken part in zoom lessons throughout previous lockdowns enabling them to continue to develop their dance skills.  We still offer training for exams on zoom as well as themed lessons and dress up fun! For details of our zoom timetable please get in touch.

Lesson times

When we reopened after the first national lockdown we decided to temporarily reduce the length of some classes to allow extra time for additional cleaning and airing of the dance space. This also helps with minimising the number of parents dropping off and collecting at any one time. This is a temporary measure to allow lessons to run with Covid secure measures. This will give parents and pupils the chance to get used to the measures we need to follow.

Advance booking required

In order to attend you must confirm a place and return the consent forms. Please do not just turn up as some classes are already full. Attendance at trial classes also need to be booked in advance.

Face masks

To enable us to follow current Government law and guidance please can we request that all parents dropping off and collecting pupils wear a face mask / covering (unless exempt).

Pupils over 11 years old must also wear a face mask / covering when approaching and entering the venue (unless exempt). This can then be removed in the main hall for class but will need to be worn when using the toilets. For further information please see current Govt. advice. Current advice states that we should not wear masks for exercise.

The following sets out the measures that will be in place based on the rules of the venues and Halesowen Dance Academy’s risk assessment.

  1. New parents / pupils will be asked to complete a consent form for classes and to provide up to date contact details. This must be completed before attending lessons.
  2. Under the current rules for social distancing the number of pupils in a class will be limited. This may mean that if a class becomes fully booked you will be offered a place for your child in an alternative class. This may change with Government guidance, but this will be monitored.
  3. When attending classes there will be a one way system. In through the main entrance and out through the fire door to the main hall. Parents will need to walk to the centre or park and walk younger children to the entrance to be handed over to a member of staff (remaining 2 metres apart from other households and avoiding gathering on the car park).
  4. At the present time parents will not be allowed into the venues and toilet facilities will only be accessible to pupils attending classes. This is a strict rule set out by the venues. If the parents of younger pupils are worried by this please fill free to contact me to discuss or if your child has a specific special need that means that they may require extra support.
  5. Parents will be asked to arrive at the correct start time for their child’s lesson and not to congregate at the entrance to the centre.  You should remain at least 2 metres apart from people who are not in your household.
  6. It is important that you collect your child promptly at the end of their lesson.
  7. There will be a break between the end of each session and the start of the next lesson to allow for additional cleaning of the facilities and to minimise the number of parents dropping off and collecting. There will be additional cleaning of touch points carried out between the classes, (e.g.door handles, barres, floor).
  8. We are fortunate that we use large spaces with high ceilings that allow for good ventilation. Doors and windows will be opened to allow extra ventilation whenever possible but without compromising on security within the venues.
  9. Pupils will not be able to bring food in to lessons until further notice.
  10. Pupils will need to bring their own re-sealable /washable drinks bottle clearly labelled with their name. (This will minimise any rubbish from drinks cartons etc.)  If children do forget a drink I will not have access to kitchen facilities but will look to provide a bottle of mineral water at a small charge.
  11. Pupils should still wear appropriate dancewear which should be washed for each lesson. They will need to arrive changed and ready for class. For younger pupils leggings or shorts with a HDA t shirt may be an alternative option to a leotard to make it easier for them to manage visits to the toilet.
  12. For the current time pupils must wear appropriate dance shoes and not dance in bare feet or outdoor shoes.
  13. Hand sanitizer will be available and will be used by pupils on entry and on leaving the building. We will also promote regular hand washing and good respiratory hygiene. (Older pupils can bring their own hand sanitizer if they would like to but it should be a min of 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol.)
  14. In the event of first aid being required a first aider will use PPE equipment.
  15. If a young child needs support such as tying a shoe lace. The teacher will clean their hands before and after and wear a visor, in order to accommodate this.
  16. We would like to encourage the use of bacs transfer for all payments. If you do need to pay by cash please place the correct amount in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, the amount and a description of what the payment is for.
  17. Everyone is asked to follow the current Government guidance on COVID 19 symptoms. Pupils should not attend classes if they or members of their household display symptoms of COVID 19, or if they have been advised to self isolate or are awaiting a test result https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

If you wish to purchase dancewear items through HDA prior to your child’s lesson then this can be arranged. Items can be put ready for collection so please contact me to arrange this. Understandably for the foreseeable future pupils will not be able to borrow dance shoes if they do not have their own.
